Our Philosophy

Bow Street Yoga is a small neighborhood practice space in Union Square, Somerville. The studio was originally started by Theresa Briggs in 2009. Now under the direction of Ryan Cunningham, BSY continues to be a space for thoughtful yoga classes for all ages, experience levels, and bodies. Located on the first floor of a historic house, we hope that you feel like you are simply practicing in our living room. One of our teachers, Jess Hicks, put it best when she wrote:

At Bow Street, we are crafting a new kind of yoga community, one where the teachers are enthusiastically interested in helping students find ease - and maybe even delight - in their own bodies through a movement-based meditation practice. We continue to hone our skills with additional study and with work in our own home contemplative practices and reflection - you will feel this in our classes. Even though we all pull from different sources - yoga, Buddhism, astrology, physical therapy, and contemporary wellness research, to name a few - you can rest assured that we will curate an on-the-mat experience that will help you find greater grounding, ease, and comfort in your own being. ~ Jess Hicks
